Police reported they were contacted by a individual who found a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored fluid

Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.

Officers say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.

The substance had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.

Police then found numerous other marked automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials say preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably human blood.

"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.

A senior political figure said the incident made him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.

"This incident hits the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on individuals of migrant background in 2020.
