Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the American major.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in especial - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-term mentor Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.

It is his first trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface from spring of that year.

Success also means the Russian has secured 21 victories at 21 different competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my children together, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted commentators to wonder if his capacity to perform at the top level was finished.

But the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and perform aggressively, backed up by an enhanced service.

Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The competitors traded breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his first ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to create a final set.

The opponent saved 4 early-game opportunities in a tight deciding set before the Russian broke to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, he clinched the win with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
